What ultimately makes Ms Pacman online so popular is the fact that a lot of people can play at the same time. This is not to suggest that it's a multi-user game in the traditional sense of the word, but rather, one website can have multiple people playing the same game and enjoying themselves at the same time.
When you think back to all the different arcades that used to have Ms Pacman, only one player could play at a time. In other words, you couldn't have a dozen people playing the exact same game at the same time unless there was more than one game system at that particular arcade.
Ms Pacman is very different because the technology enables more than one person to access the game at the same time. What this has created is a situation where people will sometimes get together on a weekend with their laptops and all play Ms Pacman while talking to each other about different things. In other words, the game itself doesn't require several hundred artists to render amazing graphics -- we are talking about a very simplistic gaming environment that has not changed in nearly 30 years.
From an audio standpoint, the same tunes that everybody grew to love with the original Ms Pacman have been re-created so that those who enjoy Ms Pacman online feel as though they are immersed in the same world they would have been immersed in had they been playing an arcade version of the game.
